Vibration White Finger (VWF)

Vibration White Finger (VWF) is now more commonly considered as part of Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS) which more fully encompasses the symptoms and conditions someone may be suffering from. It is a secondary form of Raynaud’s Syndrome, resulting from persistent use of vibrating hand held machinery, for example: concrete breakers; sanders; angle grinders; drills; chainsaws; hedge trimmers; mowers; and needle guns.

The symptoms of Vibration White Finger (VWF) vary depending on the severity of damage, but generally include:

  • Tingling
  • Numbness & lack of sensation
  • Loss of Strength
  • White tips of fingers which then turn red
  • Pain & Throbbing

Vibration White Finger is caused when insufficient precautions have been taken and the resulting exposure to vibration causes small, but repeated, damage to nerves and blood vessels in the fingers which ultimately restrict blood flow to the fingers and hands.

Vibrating Equipment is covered by the Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005 and as such employees should be provided with:

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): most frequently in the form of anti-vibration gloves
  • Monitoring of the time spent exposed to vibration
  • Keeping the work environment to a reasonable temperature
  • Providing training

If you are suffering from Vibration White Finger (VWF) due to exposure at work to vibrating machinery and equipment, then you should be able to make a compensation claim. We specialise in Work Compensation Claims and are able to advise you as to how to take your case further.

Independent reviews from our CLIENTS

I am writing to you personally to say thank you to Attwood's for a job well done with my recent claims. It initially started out as one claim, but eventually became a little more complicated when another was added following a review of my condition by one of your dental experts. Throughout the last couple of years as the claim has progressed I have been fully supported by your colleague Luke Taylor. I have thanked him personally for all the good work and support he gave me over the last couple of years, it was quite a journey for both of us but with the right outcome, but I just wanted to also highlight to yourself the good service and support he provided me with. It was very much needed and appreciated. He has always been very professional and the advice he has given has always been with real feeling and thought, and not the "just my job" attitude. Even when I was very wary of what to do next, he always explained it in simple terms for me understand and move forward. If I ever need similar help in the future, your company will be the first I contact. With my sincere appreciation and regards.
