Gum Disease

Your gums play a critical part in your overall dental health. Gum Disease, including Gingivitis and Periodontal Disease or Periodontitis, is a condition that affects the tissue which surrounds and supports your teeth. It involves a progressive degeneration which left untreated can lead to the loosening and loss of teeth.

Gum Disease is, for most people, avoidable through excellent oral hygiene, sensible nutrition and regular visits to the dentist. Twice daily brushing, regular flossing and the use of an antiseptic mouthwash can all help reduce the build-up of plaque which left in place can cause tartar. It is not generally painful until it reaches an advanced stage. Therefore it is essential it is picked up through your regular dental checks and a failure to do so could constitute Dental Negligence.

If gum disease is left untreated for a prolonged period of time it can irreversibly affect the bone that holds your teeth in place. Untreated, gum disease can ultimately lead to gum recession, infections, pain, loose teeth and tooth loss. If, through your regular visits to your dentist, you have not been advised appropriately on gum care and have, as a result, developed gum disease, this could amount to Dental Negligence.

Your dentist should advise you on techniques to remove plaque and provide specific preventative advice, particularly in the cases of smokers and Diabetics.

A simple Scale & Polish is unlikely to combat the symptoms of developed gum disease. If you have suffered any of the symptoms of gum disease, and only been provided with a Scale & Polish, this may be an indication of negligent dental treatment.

from our CLIENTS

I am writing to you personally to say thank you to Attwood's for a job well done with my recent claims. It initially started out as one claim, but eventually became a little more complicated when another was added following a review of my condition by one of your dental experts. Throughout the last couple of years as the claim has progressed I have been fully supported by your colleague Luke Taylor. I have thanked him personally for all the good work and support he gave me over the last couple of years, it was quite a journey for both of us but with the right outcome, but I just wanted to also highlight to yourself the good service and support he provided me with. It was very much needed and appreciated. He has always been very professional and the advice he has given has always been with real feeling and thought, and not the "just my job" attitude. Even when I was very wary of what to do next, he always explained it in simple terms for me understand and move forward. If I ever need similar help in the future, your company will be the first I contact. With my sincere appreciation and regards.
