Accidents whilst working on a farm
Although the agriculture and farming industry only accounts for about 1.5% of the working population, working in farming is responsible for up to 20% of total workplace fatalities each year.

The farming industry has a deeply ingrained culture of unsafe practices, unnecessary risk taking and poorly maintained farming equipment. It also involves working with and around dangerous animals. Farms are an extremely dangerous place to work, but that doesn’t mean your employers should ignore or forget to comply with important Health and Safety regulations.

Farming Accidents
Farmers who hire additional workers are responsible for providing the necessary training and maintenance to keep their staff safe. There are many reasons why people wish to claim compensation, these include:

  • WORKING WITH DEFECTIVE OR POORLY MAINTAINED MACHINERY
  • LACK OF TRAINING FOR USING DANGEROUS EQUIPMENT
  • INJURIES SUSTAINED BY FALLING FROM STRUCTURES OR MACHINERY
  • INJURIES BY ANIMALS OR DANGEROUS LIVESTOCK
  • FARM VEHICLE ACCIDENTS
  • LACK OF PROPER SAFETY EQUIPMENT

Farmer’s Lung
Farmer’s Lung is an allergy caused by breathing in the dust from mouldy crops and hay. It may also be caused by exposure to contaminants, or by breathing in toxic fumes.

Farmer’s Lung causes shortness of breath and a feeling of general illness. Lengthy exposure to dust may cause permanent lung damage, physical disabilities or even death.

Injuries Caused By Farm Animals
Members of the public who walk across farmers’ fields are at risk of being injured by animals. Horses that are not fenced in, charging bulls and cattle that have wandered across roads can all cause serious damage and injury to people. Because of the differences in size and strength between humans and some animals, animals can cause broken ribs, other fractures and punctured lungs.
